MSM Groups Confront Hostility and HIV with Resolve and Creativity
New report from amfAR and MSMGF showcases lifesaving efforts of community-based groups to reach men who have sex with men (MSM) and demonstrates the impact that small programs are having on the global HIV epidemic among MSM.
With recent data showing rapidly escalating HIV epidemics among men who have sex with men (MSM) in many countries around the world, community-based organizations are filling the gap in HIV prevention, education, and treatment services that governments and other large donors have been unable or unwilling to address, according to a new report from amfAR and the Global Forum on MSM & HIV (MSMGF).
The report, “Lessons from the Front Lines: Effective Community-Led Responses to HIV and AIDS Among MSM and Transgender Populations,” will be released at the pre-conference event, Be Heard!, organized by the MSMGF in Vienna on Saturday, July 17, in advance of the 18th International AIDS Conference.
“The ways to address HIV among MSM are not a mystery,” said amfAR CEO Kevin Robert Frost. “We have hundreds of examples of small organizations that effectively and efficiently deliver prevention and treatment services.”
